Who We Are

The 3900 Club was founded in 1969 by W0FZO and 9 other hams. That founding, an outgrowth of a Sioux City net, was just a few hams getting together on Sunday mornings with nothing particular to do.  Today we have over 1500 members and I know of no other club like it. We have no conflict with any other club and are a regional rather than a local club.

On any given Sunday, there are from 50 to100 check-ins for our on–the-air meeting.   A CW net is held on 3.598 at 7:30 for those wishing to exercise their code.  The traders net on 3.8945 (+/- QRM) kicks off at 07:30 At 8:30 the president calls the meeting to order and the early roll call of about 35 stations that have church or other obligations is read.

After the early roll call, a short bulletin is read from one of several sources and we try to make it up to date and as informative as possible.

After the bulletin, the meeting is turned over to the vice president for the club business meeting.  Introductions of new members, special announcements, correspondence and anything concerning the club are discussed at this time. Then, the regular roll call is taken and the meeting is then adjourned.  The average Sunday morning net lasts roughly 2 hours.

We obtain most of our funds from our annual Hamboree held every year.

During the Hamboree we hold our annual meeting as required by the State of Iowa. This meeting and any other social functions provide an exceptional opportunity to meet and become better acquainted with the people we hear and talk to on Sunday mornings.

We invite other clubs to send information about their meetings, hamfest’s, flea markets, VE exams, and so forth and we can air them on our meeting.
